About Akanthos

Akanthos were formed in 2008 to meet a need for handcrafted bespoke furniture of the highest quality. We anticipated that with the withdrawal from this market of some long-established firms, furniture made in England entirely by traditional methods and from authentic materials might become unobtainable.

The Akanthos team have between them over 200 years of experience in designing and making some of the most exquisite furniture in England, and we are dedicated to continuing this fine tradition.

Exclusive Designs

Our inspiration is the "Golden Age" of English furniture, the period when the masters, Chippendale, Sheraton, Hepplewhite and others produced classic designs of furniture, but we also produce contemporary designs. Our furniture features exclusive designs taking the best elements of a period to produce unique pieces that are true to that era.

Made in Norfolk

Norfolk in England has been a centre for fine English furniture making since the eighteen century and remains so today. Our workshops are near Fakenham where we have assembled a team of dedicated craftsmen cabinetmakers, polishers and upholsterers, each of who has had years of experience in the traditional skills of creating fine furniture.

Melton Constable Hall

Akanthos have been commissioned to supply furniture for the restoration of Melton Constable Hall. This exciting project involves the restoration of antique pieces, including a baby grand piano, that are in the possession of the current owner, and creating new and matching pieces of the period. This entails sourcing some rare materials for important pieces, such as marble and Cuban mahogany.
